[Invent to Learn by Sylvia Libow Martinez & Gary Stager]
I especially enjoy reading this article because it provided me with an overview of the brief history of education that's related to making. By doing so, the author was able to list all the educators and philosophers who addressed the idea of students learn the most while they are making or doing something. I always knew we learn more things when we actually get to do it instead of listening to the lecture. However, it just made more sense when I heard ideas quoted by actual education philosophers.
From what I learned through the reading is that making, tinkering, and electronics should definitely be introduced into the art classroom. Projects like these will provide flexible learning arrangements that promote collaboration, enabling students to test out their own ideas and most importantly will learn while doing it. It will also be another method for engaging learners in a creative way while exposing students to new skills and technologies.
